As abandoned dogs continue to appear near its rural property in eastern Manatee County, Queen’s Ranch Dog Rescue is working to raise the funds needed to transform 5.5 acres into a permanent sanctuary for animals in need.
Founded by Pia Ceccarelli-Rosenberg, the nonprofit organization is developing a self-sustaining, no-kill rescue facility designed to provide abandoned, neglected, and unwanted dogs with shelter, rehabilitation, exercise, socialization, and long-term care.
The organization envisions eventually accommodating approximately 100 dogs while developing revenue-generating activities to help sustain operations and reduce dependence on donations.
Although the land has been secured, significant infrastructure improvements are needed before the sanctuary can become fully operational. These include water systems, irrigation, fencing, animal housing, sanitation facilities, and other essential improvements.
Funding remains one of the organization’s greatest challenges. Meanwhile, dogs continue to be abandoned on or near the property, highlighting the need for additional rescue resources in the area.
To help finance the project, Queen’s Ranch has launched its 2026 Holiday Poinsettia Fundraiser, offering locally grown red poinsettias supplied by Orban’s Nursery.
Plants are available for $15 each for orders of one to four or $13 each for purchases of five or more. Free local delivery is available for orders of at least five plants in Parrish, Palmetto, Bradenton, and Lakewood Ranch.
Customers may also pick up their orders at the ranch on Saturday, December 5, or Sunday, December 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The organization is encouraging residents, businesses, churches, neighborhood associations, and community groups to participate by purchasing poinsettias for holiday decorations, gifts, and seasonal events.
Beyond the holiday fundraiser, Queen’s Ranch is seeking business sponsorships, volunteers, in-kind donations, and partnerships to support construction and infrastructure development.
The long-term objective is to establish a financially sustainable rescue that can provide consistent care for vulnerable animals while reducing the ongoing need for outside financial assistance.
Proceeds from the poinsettia fundraiser will support the continued development of the sanctuary.
Poinsettia orders can be placed online at queensranch.org/christmas.
