Ambulance Involved in Three-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Manatee Avenue Causeway Overnight
A three-vehicle crash involving an ambulance transporting a patient shut down the Manatee Avenue Causeway in both directions late Saturday, prompting an extended traffic investigation and overnight road closure.
Just before 10 p.m., officers with the Bradenton Police Department were dispatched to the crash near Perico Bay Boulevard and Perico Island. The collision involved multiple drivers as well as an EMS patient who was being transported at the time of the incident. All drivers and the patient were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Due to the nature of the crash, BPD Crime Scene Investigation personnel and Traffic Homicide Investigators responded to document the scene and assist with the investigation. The Holmes Beach Police Department provided traffic control assistance while the roadway remained closed.
The Manatee Avenue Causeway was closed in both directions during the investigation, with motorists urged to use Cortez Road as an alternate route. The roadway reopened at approximately 1:30 a.m.
No further details regarding injuries or the cause of the crash have been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
