Anna Maria Elementary School Set to Reopen After Hurricane Helene Closures
After being closed for several weeks due to Hurricane Helene, Anna Maria Elementary School will welcome students and staff back to campus on Monday. Located at 4700 Gulf Drive North, the school was temporarily closed following the storm, which made landfall on September 30, causing extensive power outages and access restrictions across Anna Maria Island.
During the closure, students and staff were relocated to nearby Stewart Elementary on the mainland, allowing classes to continue uninterrupted. The district’s recent announcement marks a significant step in the community's recovery, as access to the island has gradually improved, and restoration efforts have progressed.
Although much of Anna Maria Island was impacted by the storm surge, the school sustained minimal damage, allowing it to reopen safely. Classes will resume at their usual start time of 8:25 a.m. on Monday.
