Art and Literacy Family Engagement Night to Inspire Creativity and Connection in Palmetto
Families across Manatee County are invited to take part in an evening of creativity, storytelling, and community at the upcoming Art and Literacy Family Engagement Night. The event will be held on Thursday, December 18, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Palmetto Boys & Girls Club, located at 1600 10th Street West in Palmetto.
Hosted by the School District of Manatee County in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, the program offers dinner and two age-appropriate mini-events designed to foster imagination and meaningful conversation.
For teens and preteens, the evening features a screening and discussion of "Sentenced," a documentary that explores the connection between literacy and the school-to-prison pipeline. Following the film, participants will engage in discussions about community support and youth empowerment.
Younger participants will enjoy an interactive Art and Reading Experience, where they will read excerpts together and create individual canvases inspired by the connection between art and storytelling.
The event aims to strengthen family engagement through shared experiences that highlight the power of literacy and creative expression.
Registration is open, and families can sign up by emailing Omar Edwards at EdwardsO@ManateeSchools.net.
