Astoria on 9th Opens in Bradenton, Adding 120 Affordable Senior Apartments
BRADENTON – The city’s commitment to expanding affordable housing options is taking a major step forward with the grand opening of Astoria on 9th, a $37.4 million senior apartment community developed by Housing Trust Group and AM Affordable Housing.
Located at 2244 9th Street West, just south of LECOM Park, Astoria on 9th officially opens its doors on May 27. The 120-unit complex is designed specifically for older residents and offers one- and two-bedroom apartments at deeply affordable rental rates, starting as low as $322 per month. The apartments are designated for seniors earning at or below 22%, 30%, and 60% of the area median income.
The grand opening celebration is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.. It will feature appearances by NBA Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning, founder of AM Affordable Housing, as well as local officials and project stakeholders.
The development responds to growing regional demand for affordable senior housing. Across the Tampa Bay area, nearly 60% of renters are considered cost-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30% of their income on housing. Astoria aims to provide a stable, affordable living environment for seniors in need.
Astoria joins a wave of recent attainable housing developments in Bradenton. Riverview 6, located at 601 9th Street W., is expected to add 80 units later this year. The Met, which opened in November at 402 13th Street W., offers 199 units, while Nine20 Manatee opened on May 16 with 137 units at 920 Manatee Avenue. W.
Together, these projects support the city’s broader strategy to create a “live, work, play” environment. The aim is to ensure that essential workers, such as teachers, healthcare workers, and government employees, can afford to live in the community where they work and contribute.
City officials say the latest developments represent critical progress toward closing the affordable housing gap and fostering a more inclusive and sustainable Bradenton for all residents.
