Bicyclist Dies After Early Morning Crash on 15th Street East in Manatee County
A bicyclist died after being struck by an SUV during an early morning crash in Manatee County on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on 15th Street East, just south of 61st Avenue East.
Investigators said the bicyclist was traveling east across 15th Street East when he entered the path of a southbound 2008 Honda CR-V driven by a 38-year-old Bradenton man. The SUV struck the bicyclist before overturning and crashing into the rear of an unoccupied 2011 Cadillac SRX that was parked on the east shoulder of the roadway.
The bicyclist suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. His identity has not been released as authorities work to notify family members.
The driver of the Honda was not injured in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
