Bicyclist Killed After Vehicle Enters Bike Lane in Bradenton
A 48-year-old Ruskin man was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle that entered a designated bicycle lane in Bradenton, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 4:25 a.m. on 53rd Avenue West near 66th Street West. Investigators reported that a 24-year-old Sarasota man was driving westbound on 53rd Avenue West when his vehicle traveled into the bicycle lane.
The bicyclist, who was also traveling westbound in the designated bike lane ahead of the vehicle, was struck by the front of the car.
Emergency responders pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not announced whether the driver will face any charges.
