Bomb Threat Triggers Lockdown at Williams Elementary, Delays Student Release for Hours
A bomb threat prompted a lockdown at Williams Elementary School on Monday afternoon, leading to a prolonged and tense wait for families as students were safely released from campus.
The threat was reported earlier in the day, triggering immediate safety protocols and a coordinated response between the Manatee County School District and local law enforcement. As word spread, dozens of parents began arriving at the school just before 3 p.m., forming long lines of vehicles and gathering nearby in hopes of seeing their children.
Students were dismissed gradually under staff supervision, with school employees escorting them out in small groups to ensure safety and proper reunification. The process took several hours, with some parents waiting up to two hours, including time spent standing in heavy rain.
District officials confirmed that all appropriate emergency procedures were followed and that communication was sent to families and staff throughout the incident. Law enforcement remained on scene as a precaution while the situation was assessed.
Officials indicated the threat may have been a swatting incident, but emphasized that all threats are treated as serious until fully investigated. Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
