Braden River High School is celebrating three former student-athletes as the inaugural inductees into its Athletics Hall of Fame, recognizing their outstanding achievements in high school, college, and professional sports.
The inaugural class features three members of the Class of 2013: softball standout Courtney Mirabella, basketball and football athlete Trevon Young, and Major League Baseball player Myles Straw. Each honoree helped establish a tradition of athletic excellence at Braden River High School before continuing to achieve success beyond graduation.
Courtney Mirabella – Softball
Mirabella established herself as one of Florida’s top high school softball pitchers, leading the state with an impressive 0.23 earned run average during her senior season. She earned All-American honors and continued her career at North Carolina Central University, where she achieved NCAA Division I strikeout milestones. Her athletic career eventually took her overseas, where she played professional softball in Europe.
Trevon Young – Basketball and Football
A talented multi-sport athlete, Young excelled in both basketball and football during his time at Braden River. He earned Florida Athletic Coaches Association Class 7A Player of the Year honors in basketball while averaging 19.5 points per game. His football abilities also attracted attention from the University of Florida. Young continued his basketball career at Eckerd College, where he surpassed 1,000 career points, before playing three seasons of professional basketball overseas.
Myles Straw – Baseball
Straw’s journey from high school baseball to the major leagues reflects determination and perseverance. After initially being cut from the varsity baseball team as a freshman, he worked his way into the lineup and finished his senior season with a .370 batting average. Straw went on to build a Major League Baseball career, earning recognition with a Heart and Hustle Award. He later joined the Toronto Blue Jays and competed in the 2025 World Series.
The inaugural Athletics Hall of Fame class celebrates the lasting impact of three Braden River graduates whose determination and accomplishments continue to inspire future generations of Pirates.
