The School District of Manatee County has announced its 2026 honorees, recognizing excellence in both instructional leadership and essential school support roles.
Cliff Dawson, Director of Bands at Braden River High School, was named the 2026 Educator of the Year. Dawson was recognized for his passion, innovation, and dedication to student success. Under his leadership, the band program has fostered high academic and artistic standards while helping students build confidence, discipline, and teamwork that extend beyond the classroom.
District leaders noted that Dawson’s work exemplifies the impact educators can have in shaping school culture, expanding opportunities through the arts, and strengthening the overall educational experience for students.
The district also honored Mara Gonzalez, a paraprofessional at Bayshore Elementary School, as the 2026 Support Employee of the Year. Gonzalez was recognized for her commitment, care, and the vital role she plays in supporting students, teachers, and school operations each day.
Support employees are a critical part of school success, providing consistency, encouragement, and hands-on assistance that help classrooms and campuses thrive. Gonzalez’s recognition highlights the importance of these contributions and the difference they make for students and staff alike.
