Braden River High School Junior Wins Statewide Essay Contest, Earns College Scholarship
Braden River High School junior Aaron Gordon has been awarded a two-year Florida Prepaid College scholarship after winning the Florida Department of Education's Black History Month student essay contest.
Gordon, an aspiring playwright, earned the honor for his compelling essay highlighting the life and legacy of legendary musician Ray Charles. His work stood out among entries from across the state and was recognized by Governor Ron DeSantis as part of the Black History Month celebration.
The annual contest encourages students to explore the contributions of African American leaders and cultural icons. Gordon’s achievement showcases his writing talent and brings pride to the Braden River High School community.
The scholarship will cover tuition at a Florida college or university, giving Gordon a head start on his academic and artistic ambitions.
