Bradenton Awarded $280,000 FDOT Grant to Advance Pedestrian and Traffic Safety
The City of Bradenton has been awarded $280,000 from the Florida Department of Transportation to support pedestrian and traffic safety planning and to pilot targeted safety improvements across the city.
With the City’s required $70,000 local match, the initiative represents a $350,000 investment focused on data-driven analysis and real-world testing to reduce crashes and improve safety for pedestrians, drivers, and cyclists.
The effort will analyze traffic patterns, crash histories, and vehicle speeds to identify high-risk areas and safety challenges. Based on those findings, the City will test low-cost, high-impact measures such as enhanced signage, improved visibility, and other quick-build safety treatments designed to make streets safer without major construction.
City officials emphasized that the funding is not intended for large-scale roadway projects, but rather for practical, evidence-based strategies that can be evaluated and refined before broader implementation. The approach allows planners to measure effectiveness and prioritize solutions that deliver immediate safety benefits.
Safer streets remain a shared community priority, and the project reflects collaboration among local and state partners committed to improving transportation safety for everyone who uses Bradenton’s roads. Additional details about the initiative and next steps are available on the City’s website.
