Deputies Investigate Stabbing and Shooting in Silver Lake Neighborhood

Manatee County detectives are investigating a violent incident involving both a stabbing and a shooting in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Bradenton.

Deputies responded around 8 a.m. to a home in the 5200 block of 60th Drive East, where they found 21-year-old Dakota Hayes outside the residence with two gunshot wounds. As deputies approached, his 24-year-old brother, Willie Hayes, exited the home and told deputies he had shot Dakota after witnessing him stab his girlfriend.

Inside the home, deputies located a 23-year-old woman in a bedroom with multiple stab wounds. Deputies provided immediate first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Both the woman and Dakota Hayes were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where they remain hospitalized but are expected to survive.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the incident. No charges have been filed at this time, and the case remains under investigation.
