In Bradenton, a fatal hit-and-run crash on Monday evening claimed the life of a 74-year-old man who was struck while walking in a marked crosswalk, and the Florida Highway Patrol is asking the public for help identifying the driver responsible.
The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. on 60th Avenue West, just west of U.S. 41 near a Publix entrance, when a dark gray or black SUV – possibly a Toyota RAV4 or 4Runner – approached and hit the pedestrian as he was crossing the street, according to a patrol release.
After the collision, the vehicle briefly stopped inside the Flamingo Garden Apartment complex, then returned to 60th Avenue West and fled westbound, troopers said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators continue to search for the SUV and its driver in connection with the hit-and-run. Officials are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact the Florida Highway Patrol or CrimeStoppers.
