Bradenton Hit-and-Run Victim Dies Nearly a Week After Crash
A 47-year-old man critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in Bradenton has died nearly a week after he was struck, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Jose Jimenez died Friday, Aug. 14, from injuries sustained in the Aug. 8 crash along 14th Street West near 19th Avenue.
The investigation initially drew public attention because police were unable to determine the critically injured man’s identity. Jimenez was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and was unable to communicate with investigators. Efforts to identify him through his fingerprints were also unsuccessful.
Bradenton Police turned to the public for assistance, releasing video showing Jimenez at a gas station shortly before the crash. Investigators hoped someone would recognize him and help officers locate his family.
On Wednesday, police announced that a relative had recognized Jimenez in the video and contacted investigators, allowing authorities to confirm his identity.
Police identified 34-year-old Lindsey Gore as the driver involved in the crash. She was located and arrested shortly after the incident, and investigators recovered the vehicle believed to have been involved.
Gore is currently charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious bodily injury.
Bradenton Police have not announced whether the charge against Gore will be amended or additional charges will be filed following Jimenez’s death. The investigation remains ongoing.
