Bradenton Man Charged with Murder in Girlfriend’s Death After Violent Assault
A Bradenton man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend following what investigators describe as a prolonged physical assault.
On the morning of April 8, 2025, deputies with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 2124 30th Avenue East in Bradenton. Emergency crews found 34-year-old Yassmin Montoya unconscious in the passenger seat of a black Dodge Charger with severe facial injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died on April 11.
Medical examiners determined Montoya died from blunt force trauma to the head and face, ruling her death a homicide. She also suffered a traumatic brain injury, multiple fractures, and extensive internal injuries.
Investigators say her boyfriend, 33-year-old Rodger Villasana, initially claimed unknown suspects in Sarasota had attacked her. However, detectives uncovered multiple inconsistencies in his statement.
Surveillance video from the Golden Host Resort and Bahi Hut in Sarasota showed Montoya arriving without injuries before a violent altercation occurred. Footage captured Villasana dragging Montoya back into their hotel room after she tried to escape. Moments later, she appeared visibly injured and unable to walk without assistance.
Additional records from cell phone data and license plate readers confirmed the couple never went to the location Villasana claimed. No evidence or witnesses supported his version of events, authorities said.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Villasana on Wednesday night. He is being held on charges of second-degree murder. The investigation remains ongoing.
