The City of Bradenton is moving to annex the final two city-owned pieces of G.T. Bray Park that remain in unincorporated Manatee County, closing a 1.04-acre gap in the city boundary more than four decades after acquiring the land.
City Council approved the annexations on first reading Sept. 9. The Planning Commission is scheduled to consider zoning and future land-use designations Sept. 16, with additional City Council hearings tentatively set for Oct. 14 and Nov. 18.
Bradenton has owned the property since 1983, but the two parcels remained outside city limits. One covers 0.62 acres, while the other covers 0.42 acres along 33rd Avenue Drive West.
The city plans to designate both parcels as Recreational/Open Space and zone them as a Planned Development Project, matching the classifications of the surrounding G.T. Bray Park property.
No development or construction is proposed. The parcels will remain in recreational use.
If approved, the annexations will bring all city-owned land within G.T. Bray Park under Bradenton’s jurisdiction.
