Bradenton Murder Suspect Arrested in Georgia After Nearly Four Months on the Run
A Bradenton man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in March has been arrested in Georgia after nearly four months as a fugitive.
Maurice McCary, 35, was taken into custody Monday in Albany, Georgia, after authorities received a tip regarding his whereabouts. According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement officers located McCary hiding under a bed before placing him under arrest.
Investigators say the shooting occurred on March 8 at the intersection of 14th Street West and 53rd Avenue West in Bradenton. Authorities allege that McCary pulled alongside a vehicle stopped at a traffic light and fired multiple rounds into the car.
The occupants of the vehicle, 27-year-old Jamari Murray-Barnes and 22-year-old De’Ryan Lopez, were both struck by gunfire. Murray-Barnes died from his injuries, while Lopez survived.
Detectives believe the shooting may have been connected to an altercation involving the men at a local bar two days earlier, on March 6.
McCary had been wanted on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Murray-Barnes’ death. He is expected to be extradited to Manatee County to face the charge.
