Bradenton Offers Free Used Cooking Oil Collection to Prevent Sewer Damage and Protect Environment
The City of Bradenton is encouraging residents to safely dispose of used cooking oil through its Grease (FOG) Prevention Program, offering a free and environmentally responsible solution to a common household problem.
Improper disposal of cooking oil, particularly pouring it down drains, can lead to serious issues within the city’s sewer system. As oil cools, it solidifies and combines with other debris, creating blockages that can result in sewer backups and overflows. These issues not only damage infrastructure but also pose risks to local waterways, wildlife, and soil.
To help prevent these problems, the city is hosting a used cooking oil collection event at the Bradenton Public Market on Old Main Street. The upcoming collection will take place on Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents are invited to bring their used cooking oil for proper disposal at no cost. The program provides a simple and effective way for the community to reduce environmental impact while helping maintain the integrity of the local sewer system.
Additional collection opportunities are scheduled for the last Saturday of each month at the Public Market, making it easy for residents to participate regularly and dispose of waste responsibly.
