Bradenton Police Department Mourns Loss of Officer Zachary Butterfield
The Bradenton Police Department is grieving the tragic loss of Officer Zachary Butterfield, who died by suicide Thursday afternoon. Officer Butterfield, 40, had served with the department since July 2022 following a distinguished career in the United States Coast Guard.
While continuing his service in the Coast Guard Reserves, Officer Butterfield became an integral part of the Bradenton Police Department, contributing as a SWAT Team member and earning the Life Saving Award for his dedication and bravery.
The department is reeling from the news, emphasizing the importance of mental health support among first responders. Peer support teams have been activated within the department to ensure officers and staff have access to professional counseling and emotional resources during this difficult time.
