Bradenton Police Investigate Fatal Crash Involving Suspected Drunk Driver on Cortez Road
The Bradenton Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is conducting an investigation into a fatal crash that occurred late Saturday evening, November 2, 2024, involving a suspected impaired driver. The incident took place around 10:40 p.m. on Cortez Road when Cesar Navarrete, 25, allegedly ran a red light at high speed, colliding with a Chevrolet Equinox attempting to turn onto northbound 43rd Street West.
The impact of the crash tragically claimed the life of Sara Holmes, 37, a passenger in the Equinox, who was transported to a nearby trauma center but later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Equinox, 36, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. Navarrete and a passenger in his vehicle, a Nissan Altima, were also injured.
Following the crash, Bradenton Police arrested Navarrete on an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license. Investigators suspect Navarrete was under the influence at the time of the collision and have initiated a DUI investigation. Pending further findings, additional charges may be brought against him.
This incident has heightened concerns about impaired driving in the community, as the Bradenton Police Department continues its efforts to curb such incidents through enforcement and public awareness.
