Bradenton Police Launch Safety Campaign to Protect Pedestrians and Cyclists
The Bradenton Police Department is stepping up its efforts to improve roadway safety with the launch of a High Visibility Enforcement initiative aimed at reducing crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists.
The campaign, funded through the University of North Florida’s Institute of Police Technology and Management and the Florida Department of Transportation, runs through June 5, 2026. It will place extra patrols on roads where pedestrian and bicycle traffic is highest and where serious crashes are most likely to occur.
Targeted areas include 1st Street East between 13th Avenue East and Martin Luther King Avenue East, 14th Street West between 21st Avenue West and 11th Avenue West, Manatee Avenue West between 53rd Street West and 57th Street West, and 59th Street West between 29th Avenue West and 33rd Avenue West.
The campaign emphasizes education and awareness, focusing on the dangerous behaviors that often lead to serious and sometimes fatal accidents. Officers will work to remind drivers to obey speed limits, avoid distractions, and exercise caution when watching for pedestrians and cyclists. Cyclists are encouraged to follow traffic laws, ride with the flow of traffic, and use proper lighting at night to ensure their safety and visibility. Pedestrians are urged to cross at marked crosswalks, follow pedestrian signals, and ensure they are visible when walking after dark.
By combining increased enforcement with education, the Bradenton Police Department hopes to reduce preventable tragedies and create safer streets for everyone.
