Bradenton Police Remind Drivers of Changes to Florida DUI Law Effective October 1
The Bradenton Police Department is reminding motorists of new changes to Florida’s DUI law that take effect on October 1, 2025.
Under the updated statute, drivers who refuse to submit to a breath or urine test after being arrested for driving under the influence will now face criminal charges. A first refusal is classified as a second-degree misdemeanor, in addition to a one-year suspension of the driver's license. A second refusal will result in a first-degree misdemeanor along with an 18-month license suspension.
Authorities emphasized that while the penalties for refusal have been updated, the existing rules for license suspensions remain unchanged.
The changes are intended to strengthen enforcement and increase accountability for drivers suspected of impaired driving across the state.
