Bradenton Police Share Positive Update on Rescued Dogs from Aggravated Animal Abuse Case
The Bradenton Police Department provided an encouraging update Monday on the condition of five dogs rescued last week from a home on 10th Avenue West, where they were found severely malnourished.
The investigation began after officers received an anonymous tip about possible neglect. Upon arrival, police discovered three pit bulls, a Great Dane, and a Cane Corso in poor condition. Each dog weighed only about half of its recommended body weight, and several had open wounds and sores. The couple responsible for the animals’ care was arrested and charged with five counts of aggravated animal abuse.
Following their rescue, the dogs received emergency medical treatment, with some requiring hospitalization for further observation. On Monday, officers visited the animals and reported that all were steadily recovering and gaining weight. The Great Dane mix, who required partial amputation of his tail, has already gained seven pounds.
According to the department, two of the dogs—the black pit bull mix and the Great Dane mix—are expected to be available for adoption within the next few weeks. The remaining three dogs have not yet been officially surrendered, but are expected to become available once custody is finalized.
The emergency medical care for the animals has cost approximately $15,000 so far, with additional expenses anticipated as their recovery continues.
