Bradenton Police Warn of Social Media ‘Teen Takeover’ Trend Ahead of Summer Break
The Bradenton Police Department is urging teens and parents to remain vigilant and make responsible choices this summer after becoming aware of a social media trend known as a “teen takeover.”
In a community safety message released as schools let out for summer, the department said it wants students to enjoy their break but emphasized that criminal activity, reckless behavior and disruptions to public spaces will not be tolerated.
Police specifically warned against conduct that interferes with businesses, parks, the Bradenton Riverwalk or traffic. The department stated that any unlawful or disruptive activity connected to gatherings organized through social media could result in enforcement action.
The advisory comes as communities across the country have seen large groups of teenagers gather in public areas through social media coordination, sometimes leading to disturbances, property damage or safety concerns.
Bradenton police encouraged young people to make smart decisions and avoid situations that could put themselves or others at risk.
The department also called on parents to stay engaged by talking with their teenagers, knowing where they plan to be and remaining involved in their activities during the summer months.
The safety message did not reference a specific incident, planned event, arrest or credible threat within the city. Instead, officials said the advisory was intended as a proactive reminder to promote safety and prevent potential problems before they occur.
