Bradenton School Speed Zone Cameras Record Nearly 16,000 Violations During School Year
With public schools in Manatee County dismissing for summer break on Thursday, the Bradenton Police Department released its annual report card on drivers traveling through school speed zones during the 2025-2026 school year.
The department’s assessment of driver behavior was simple: needs improvement.
According to data released by the department, school speed zone cameras across the city recorded 15,866 violations from drivers traveling more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit during active school hours.
Of those violations, 3,307 drivers were ultimately issued citations after failing to pay the violation notice or request a hearing. Under the program, registered vehicle owners receive a notice of violation and a fine of up to $100 if their vehicle is detected exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 mph while school zones are active.
Each violation captured by the camera system is reviewed by a law enforcement officer or traffic infraction enforcement officer before a citation is issued to confirm the offense.
The schools with the highest number of violations during the school year were Rogers Garden Elementary on 13th Avenue West with 3,342 violations, followed by Ballard Elementary on 18th Street West with 2,833 violations and Sea Breeze Elementary on 71st Street West with 2,440 violations.
Police also reported that the highest speed recorded in a school zone during the year was 73 mph.
The school speed zone cameras will not be operational during summer break, but law enforcement officials reminded drivers that speeding citations can still be issued throughout the summer months.
