Breslin Chosen as Manatee’s Next Superintendent
The School Board of Manatee County has selected Dr. Laurie Breslin as the district’s next superintendent, pending contract approval. A graduate of the district herself, Dr. Breslin is expected to assume the role in early September, marking a historic homegrown appointment.
Her selection is both a professional milestone and a personal full-circle moment. Having attended Manatee schools as a student, Breslin went on to serve as a teacher at Southeast and Manatee high schools before moving into leadership roles across the region. She later became principal of Sarasota Middle School, where her leadership propelled the school into the state’s top 10% for academic achievement and expanded opportunities in both the arts and Career and Technical Education.
Returning to Manatee, Breslin advanced through district leadership, including serving as Director of Secondary Curriculum, Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment, and most recently Executive Director of Student Support & Family Engagement. In that role, she oversaw a $40 million budget and led programs in Exceptional Student Education, early childhood education, and crisis response. Under her guidance, schools serving English Language Learners and students with disabilities reported measurable academic gains within one year.
Her dedication extends beyond the classroom. Breslin has served as Vice Chair of the Take Stock in Children Board of Directors, mentored local students, and contributed as a board member for Parenting Matters. She is also a Leadership Florida Education Lifetime Member and co-author of a professional development resource for school leaders.
Breslin holds a doctorate in Teaching and Learning from Argosy University and advanced degrees in Curriculum and Instruction with Educational Technology from the University of Florida.
In addition to her professional record, Breslin brings a personal connection to her new role. As a parent of a current Manatee County student and lifelong advocate for public education, she is poised to bring both vision and lived experience to the district’s top leadership position.
Her appointment signifies a strong commitment to student-centered decision-making, family engagement, and continuing the district’s pursuit of academic excellence.
