Bridge Street Pier Restaurant Restoration Nears Completion
Restoration work at the Anna Maria Oyster Bar (AMOB) on the Pier is nearing completion, following damage sustained during the 2024 hurricane season. The restaurant, located at Bradenton Beach’s Historic Bridge Street Pier, has undergone a series of repairs and upgrades following Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which caused widespread destruction.
On June 27, AMOB owner John Horne briefed Bradenton Beach commissioners on the progress of the rebuild. Among the key changes was the replacement of a destroyed aluminum awning with a new tiki hut. While the tiki structure covers a slightly larger area, the overall dining footprint of the restaurant has been reduced by 24 square feet.
Additional improvements included replacing a damaged metal railing with planters and bollards, which help separate the restaurant’s operations from pedestrian traffic on the pier. The changes aim to enhance both the appearance and safety of the area, particularly for families and children.
The restaurant also addressed previous safety concerns by relocating televisions that were mounted too low over walkways. These adjustments were made to prevent injuries, especially for those carrying fishing gear along the pier.
After reviewing the updated layout and safety features, the city commission unanimously approved the new configuration, enabling the restaurant to finalize its rebuild permit.
Meanwhile, broader hurricane recovery efforts continue along the pier. Repairs to the floating and finger docks, essential for recreational and commercial boating access, are being carried out by Duncan Seawall of Sarasota. Manatee County’s tourist development tax funds the work and follows a 2021 agreement between the county and the city to improve the docks.
Damage from last fall’s hurricanes made the dock restoration a priority. Repairs to the floating dock have already enabled the return of ferry service, and work is ongoing to restore the finger docks to full operation. The combined efforts aim to restore the pier's full functionality, making it a popular destination for both locals and visitors.
