Cedar Cove Breaks Ground in Manatee County to Support Families Emerging from Homelessness
Construction is underway on a new affordable housing community aimed at supporting families transitioning out of homelessness. The development, named Cedar Cove, will feature 80 apartment units, with half reserved for families who have experienced homelessness.
Tampa Bay-based Blue Sky Communities is developing the project in partnership with Sarasota nonprofit Community Assisted & Supported Living (CASL). CASL will provide on-site supportive services for 40 families, focusing on individuals with developmental differences and mental health challenges.
Located at 600 Orlando Avenue, southeast of Cortez Road West and U.S. 41, Cedar Cove will include three residential buildings offering one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Units will be available to households earning between 22%, 35%, and 60% of the area median income.
The 3.64-acre community will also include a clubhouse, green space, and on-site parking. Developers say the project aims to create long-term stability for residents while increasing access to affordable housing options in Manatee County.
Cedar Cove adds to ongoing efforts across the region to expand supportive and workforce housing as local governments and nonprofits work to address rising housing costs and homelessness.
