Centerstone is expanding access to trauma-informed behavioral health care in eastern Manatee County through its Mobile Trauma Therapy Unit, which is now serving children and families in Myakka City.
The mobile program provides trauma-focused therapy for children and adolescents ages birth through 17, along with services for their caregivers. Centerstone says services are available in all languages.
The program is designed to help children who have experienced adverse childhood experiences, community violence, natural disasters, grief and loss, military-related trauma, bullying, domestic violence, abuse and other traumatic events. Support is also available for children dealing with stressors related to having a family member in the military.
The Mobile Trauma Therapy Unit will be at the Myakka City Community Center, 10070 Wauchula Road, on Tuesdays. Services are available by appointment only.
By bringing clinicians directly into the community, the mobile unit is intended to make trauma-focused care more accessible to families who may face transportation, distance or other barriers to receiving services at a traditional office.
Centerstone is a nonprofit behavioral health organization providing mental health and addiction services, crisis care and other programs in communities across the country. Its services also include specialized care for veterans and military families.
Families interested in scheduling an appointment with the Mobile Trauma Therapy Unit can call 1-877-HOPE123 (1-877-467-3123) and ask for Trauma Services at extension 4-4361.
Additional information about Centerstone and its services is available through the organization’s website at centerstone.org.
