Coast Guard Responds to Medical Emergency on Cruise Ship Near Anna Maria Island
The U.S. Coast Guard’s Cortez base responded to a medical emergency aboard the cruise ship Radiance of the Seas shortly after it departed Tampa for a seven-night Western Caribbean voyage. The vessel, carrying up to 2,466 passengers, was 13 miles west of Anna Maria Island when a young girl required emergency medical attention for an undiagnosed health issue.
A Coast Guard crew transported the girl, accompanied by her parents, to awaiting emergency medical services at Station Cortez. Details about her condition have not been disclosed.
Following the brief delay, Radiance of the Seas resumed its itinerary and is expected to arrive in Cozumel on schedule on December 16. The cruise will continue to Belize, Honduras, and Mexico before returning to Port Tampa Bay on December 21.
