Cochol Cup to Honor Beloved Soccer Leader at Al Lang Stadium
A preseason matchup at Al Lang Stadium on Saturday, February 21, will carry a meaning far beyond the final score as the Tampa Bay Rowdies host Sarasota Paradise FC in the inaugural Cochol Cup.
The 7 p.m. match is dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of John Cochol, a respected United Soccer League executive, passionate advocate for the sport and devoted supporter of the Rowdies. Known throughout the soccer community for his belief in the game’s power to unite people and strengthen communities, Cochol left a lasting imprint both on and off the field.
The Cochol Cup was created to carry forward that spirit of connection and service. While fans will enjoy the excitement of preseason play, the evening also serves as a tribute to a leader who believed soccer could build something larger than the game itself.
All ticket proceeds from the gate will benefit the Come Get You Some Joy Foundation, established by Cochol’s wife, Ashley Cochol. The foundation supports initiatives that bring joy, hope and relief to individuals and families facing hardship, continuing the compassionate work that defined Cochol’s life.
Organizers encourage supporters from across the region to attend and take part in an event designed to celebrate community, compassion and the enduring impact of one man’s love for the sport.
