Cold Weather Shelters Open as Chilly Forecast Looms Over Manatee County
Manatee County officials have announced that temporary cold-weather shelters will open Monday and Tuesday to provide residents experiencing homelessness a warm, safe place to stay as cooler-than-average temperatures are expected across the region.
The shelters will be available on Monday, February 23, 2026, and Tuesday, February 24, 2026, with locations at The Salvation Army, 1204 14th St. W. in Bradenton — where check-in begins at 6 p.m. — and at Under One Roof, 407 57th Ave. E. in Bradenton, opening its doors at 2:45 p.m. for women only. Free transportation will be provided beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Turning Points, 701 17th Ave. W., with service to both shelter sites.
The move comes as the National Weather Service and multiple forecast sources indicate that Bradenton and the surrounding Manatee County area will see mild to cool conditions on Monday and Tuesday, with daytime highs generally in the low to mid-50s and overnight lows in the 40s, cool enough at night to pose risks for those without adequate shelter. Temperatures are expected to hover around the mid-50s during the day, with partly cloudy skies and only a slight chance of rain in spots. Forecast models suggest a mix of sun and clouds both days with mostly dry conditions prevailing.
Local service providers urge individuals in need of a warm place to rest to take advantage of available shelter and transportation services, as weather conditions, especially overnight, can be challenging for those without safe housing.
For more information about the shelter locations and transportation pickup times, residents should contact Manatee County emergency services or local outreach organizations.
