Community Mourns Loss Within Southern Manatee Fire Rescue

Southern Manatee Fire Rescue is mourning the loss of Firefighter Justin Markey, who passed away from natural causes while off duty on January 1, 2026.

Firefighter Markey served the community for more than 17 years and was a dedicated and highly respected member of the department. Throughout his career, he was known for his professionalism, unwavering commitment to public service, and genuine care for both the residents he served and his fellow firefighters.
