Congressman Vern Buchanan Honors Local Heroes at Congressional Service Awards Ceremony
In an evening dedicated to honoring service, Congressman Vern Buchanan held the annual Congressional Service Awards ceremony, recognizing the exceptional contributions of fire and EMS units from Manatee and Hillsborough Counties. Held to celebrate the dedication and bravery of first responders and public safety professionals, the event brought together community leaders, families, and honorees at a ceremony featuring moving tributes and formal recognition.
The awards ceremony honored both individuals and entire units for their steadfast commitment to public safety. Among the recognized were various teams that have shown exemplary service in safeguarding their communities. In addition to honoring fire and EMS personnel, the awards extended to a civilian award, presented to an Emergency Communications Center (ECC) operator, highlighting the invaluable role of support staff in emergency response.
The event also celebrated the lifesaving work of Tampa General Hospital’s AeroMed team, whose skilled efforts in emergency transport contribute significantly to critical care access in the region. Special recognition was given to Retired West Manatee Fire Rescue Chief Ed Cleveland and Commissioner Derrick Warner for their exceptional dedication and leadership within their roles, underscoring their legacy in service to the community.
The evening’s proceedings began with a stirring performance by the Lakewood Ranch High School Choir, setting a tone of gratitude and community spirit.
