Cortez Bridge Utility Relocation Project Underway, 24-Hour Operations Scheduled
Manatee County has commenced a significant utility relocation project on the Cortez Bridge. Construction activities will span day and night to ensure the project stays on schedule. Work began in early December and will intensify starting December 16 as contractors transition to 24-hour operations.
The project involves drilling a pilot hole to install an intracoastal pipe crossing. Work is taking place on both the west and east sides of the bridge. Contractors are fusing pipes and enlarging the drilled path before installing the pipe into the intercoastal route.
Extended work hours are expected, and temporary traffic adjustments will be made to manage congestion along Cortez Road W. Safety measures include maintaining eastbound and westbound traffic flow while rerouting motorists near the work zone. Drivers are advised to remain mindful of construction crews and equipment to ensure safety.
This intensive construction phase is scheduled to last until late December 2024. The relocation project aims to modernize and enhance infrastructure, requiring continuous operations to avoid potential disruptions to the installation process.
Residents and motorists should anticipate sounds from heavy equipment, backup alarms, and bright work-site lighting during nighttime activities. Project updates are available via a QR code or by contacting the provided resources.
