Cortez Bridge Utility Relocation Project Resumes This Fall
Manatee County has announced that pipe installation activities on both the north and south sides of Cortez Road West, west of the Cortez Bridge, are scheduled to resume in early fall 2025 and continue through early spring 2026. The project involves utility relocation work that will require temporary and intermittent lane closures, flagging operations, and occasional closures of travel, bike, and sidewalk lanes.
Side streets on the south side of Cortez Road West, between 124th Street West and Avenue A, will remain closed until tie-ins and connections in that area are completed. Construction will take place Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
During the project, residents can expect dewatering pipes, drilling, and the operation of heavy construction vehicles and equipment. Storage of materials and equipment within the right-of-way, along with brief lane closures on Cortez Road West, will occur periodically.
Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to follow the designated detours shown on the project map and to use caution when traveling near construction zones. The county noted that schedules and activities are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
