De Los Santos Rockets Grand Slam, Marauders Winning Streak Moves to Seven
Anker tosses 5.0 scoreless frames, Perez collects two hit performance
Yordany De Los Santos rocketed a grand slam to help the Bradenton Marauders (16-13) down the Dunedin Blue Jays (11-18) 7-1 on Wednesday from TD Ballpark. Jack Anker tossed 5.0 scoreless frames, while Edgleen Perez notched a double during his two-hit performance.
Anker finished off his fifth scoreless frame, and the Marauders opened the scoring in the top of the sixth off Blue Jays reliever Luis Victorino. After Perez doubled, Josh Tate reached first on a throwing error by Victorino that also plated Perez to make it 1-0. Luke Scherrer was hit by a pitch, and Dylan Palmer reached on a catcher’s interference to load the bases. De Los Santos clobbered a grand slam to increase the lead 5-0.
In the top of the eighth, Bradenton scored against Dunedin reliever Eduar Gonzalez. Palmer singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Murf Gray. Eddie King Jr. reached on a fielder’s choice and moved to second on a throwing error. After King Jr. moved to third on a passed ball, he scored on a wild pitch to make it a 7-0 ballgame.
Marauders reliever Roilan Portuondo allowed a homer to Addison Barger in the bottom of the ninth, but kept the Blue Jays bats quiet the rest of the way to finalize a 7-1 win for Bradenton.
Anker (3-1) notched the win, allowing a hit and striking out four over 5.0 scoreless innings. Victorino (0-3) took the loss, letting up three runs (zero earned) on two hits, a walk, and a strikeout over 2.0 frames.
The Marauders and Blue Jays play game three of a six-game series on Thursday from TD Ballpark with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. RHP Zander Mueth (0-0, 6.75) is on the mound for Bradenton, while LHP Brandon Barriera (0-3, 7.15) takes the ball for Dunedin.
