De Soto Grand Parade Set to Illuminate Bradenton on April 26
The historic De Soto Grand Parade is scheduled to dazzle spectators on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 6:30 PM along Manatee Avenue in Bradenton. As one of the largest and oldest parades in the Southeastern United States, this annual event is anticipated to feature over 150 entries and attract a crowd exceeding 100,000 attendees.
Organized by the Hernando de Soto Historical Society, a non-profit community organization founded in 1939, the parade celebrates the historical significance of Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto’s landing near the mouth of the Manatee River in May 1539. The society comprises volunteer members dedicated to fostering an appreciation of Manatee County’s Spanish-American heritage.
This year's parade promises an unforgettable night of illuminated floats, with participants distributing beads, coins, and other fun items to the crowd throughout the evening. The procession will commence at 6:30 PM from Manatee High School, so attendees must arrive early to secure prime viewing spots.
In addition to the parade, the Hernando de Soto Historical Society hosts various events throughout the year, including the De Soto Ball, Children's Parade, and a Charity Golf Tournament. These events celebrate the region's rich history and support the society's mission of providing educational opportunities and donating to local charities, organizations, and individuals.
Registration is currently open for those interested in participating in the parade. Don't miss the chance to be part of this cherished tradition. To sign up or learn more about the Hernando de Soto Historical Society and its events, visit their official website at desotohq.com.
