Defibrillate Manatee Foundation Donates 25 AEDs to Strengthen Community Safety
A moment of crisis turned into a mission of hope and action when Ernie Withers suffered a sudden cardiac arrest two years ago during a Manatee County Chamber of Commerce event at Pirates City. Thanks to the swift response of medical professionals on-site, Withers not only survived but also found a new purpose—establishing the Defibrillate Manatee Foundation to increase access to life-saving Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across the community.
In recognition of the quick actions that saved his life, the Defibrillate Manatee Foundation is now donating ten AEDs to Pittsburgh Pirates Charities in honor of Head Orthopedic Doctor Patrick DeMeo and Trainer Matt McNamee. These devices will be provided to the Lakewood Ranch Community Emergency Response Team, ensuring greater preparedness in critical situations.
Additionally, Manatee County Search and Rescue will receive 15 AEDs to support their life-saving efforts in emergency response. With these contributions, the Defibrillate Manatee Foundation has now surpassed 200 AED donations to local nonprofit organizations, significantly enhancing community safety.
The Pittsburgh Pirates organization, which played a key role in launching this initiative with an initial donation, continues to support this vital cause. Through collaboration and shared commitment, these efforts help safeguard lives, reinforcing the importance of preparedness in every corner of the community.
