Deputies Arrest Impaired Driver Found Asleep in Tesla Stopped on U.S. 301
A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies found a Tesla stopped in the left lane of U.S. 301 with both occupants asleep inside.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies recently responded to the disabled vehicle and discovered the driver and passenger asleep while the vehicle remained in the travel lane. The Tesla’s hazard lights were activated, and the vehicle’s driver alert system could be heard sounding as deputies approached.
After making contact with the occupants, deputies conducted a field sobriety test and determined the driver was impaired. The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office shared video from the June 27th incident on social media and used the case as a reminder about the dangers of impaired driving.
Officials emphasized that driving under the influence endangers everyone on the road and urged anyone who has been drinking to avoid getting behind the wheel. Instead, they encouraged using a rideshare service, taxi or designated driver to get home safely.
