Detwiler’s Farm Market has expanded its footprint in Manatee County with the purchase of a 1.03-acre industrial property adjacent to its Palmetto grocery store.
The family-owned grocery company purchased the property at 1119 19th Ave. E. for $1.06 million. Sarasota-based American Property Group brokered the transaction, with Adam Doak representing both the buyer and seller.
The property was sold by Dream Towing LLC, which purchased the site in 2021 for $475,000, according to Manatee County property records. Detwiler’s plans to use its new property for future expansion, although the company has not announced specific plans for the site.
The newly acquired property sits next to Detwiler’s Farm Market at 1800 U.S. 301 in Palmetto. Detwiler’s purchased the 8.74-acre property for the grocery store in 2017 for nearly $2.92 million and opened the Palmetto location the following year.
The 19th Avenue East property is fully fenced and zoned for heavy commercial and industrial uses. Marketing materials for the site described it as suitable for uses including outdoor storage, fleet operations and equipment yards. The property also provides access to U.S. 301, U.S. 41 and Interstate 75.
The acquisition also places Detwiler’s new property about 3.5 miles from the company’s distribution center at the Florida International Tradeport, 1811 51st Ave. E. in Palmetto. That facility opened in September 2025.
The purchase comes as Detwiler’s continues a period of expansion throughout Southwest Florida. The company currently operates six stores across Manatee and Sarasota counties and is preparing to open another Manatee County location at Braden River Plaza off State Road 64 this fall.
Detwiler’s is also planning its largest store to date in North Port. The approximately 52,000-square-foot market is planned for 5001 N. Sumter Blvd. near Interstate 75 and is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2028. It will be the first Detwiler’s location designed and constructed from the ground up.
Detwiler’s began in 2002 after founder Henry Detwiler Sr. worked in the area selling eggs and produce. The family business has since grown into a regional grocery chain known for fresh produce, meats, seafood, bakery items and other grocery products.
No timeline has been announced for development or changes to the newly purchased Palmetto property.
