Do Not Block Intersections, Manatee County Reminds Drivers
Manatee County is reminding motorists to pay attention to Do Not Block Intersection signs and avoid stopping inside intersections when traffic backs up.
County officials said blocking an intersection can prevent cross traffic from moving, leading to unnecessary congestion and longer traffic delays. Even when a traffic signal is green, drivers should wait until there is enough space on the other side of the intersection before proceeding.
Keeping intersections clear is also critical for emergency responders. Fire trucks, ambulances and law enforcement vehicles often rely on open intersections to reach emergencies quickly. A blocked intersection can slow response times when every second matters.
Officials also noted that blocked intersections can increase the risk of crashes. Drivers attempting to navigate around stopped vehicles may make sudden stops, unsafe turns or other unexpected maneuvers that create dangerous situations for everyone on the road.
In addition to creating safety hazards, ignoring a Do Not Block Intersection sign is a traffic violation in many areas and can result in a citation or fine.
Manatee County encourages all drivers to work together by keeping intersections clear, helping improve traffic flow and making roads safer for motorists, pedestrians and emergency responders alike.
