Driver Arrested for DUI After Vehicle Stalls in Intersection
Early this morning, Palmetto police received a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of an intersection. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered the driver appeared significantly impaired. Following a field sobriety investigation, the driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and booked into the Manatee County Jail.
The Palmetto Police Department confirmed the arrest involved a single-vehicle incident. The driver was unable to operate the car properly and voluntarily submitted to standard field sobriety assessments before being taken into custody. Officers administered breathalyzer tests after transporting the individual to the jail facility.
While the Palmetto Police Department did not release the driver’s name or age, they did state the individual showed clear signs of impairment at the scene, including slowed speech, unsteady movement, and the odor of alcohol on their breath.
Sheriff Rick Wells encourages community members to report erratic or unsafe driving behaviors. “Public vigilance and prompt reporting help our officers prevent potential injuries or worse before they occur,” he said in a recent press release.
The arrested individual remains in custody at the Manatee County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.
