Driver Dies in Red-Light Crash at Manatee County Intersection
A fatal crash occurred Sunday night in Manatee County after a driver ran a red light at the intersection of 30th Avenue East and U.S. 41/South Tamiami Trail, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision took place at 9:48 p.m. when a 48-year-old woman from Bradenton, driving a sedan westbound on 30th Avenue East, failed to stop at a red traffic light. At the same time, a 27-year-old man from Holiday, Florida, was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 in a pickup truck, approaching the intersection with a green light.
The woman's sedan struck the passenger side of the pickup truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries and was transported to HCA Florida Blake Hospital.
Authorities have not released the names of either driver, and the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the crash remains under investigation as of Monday.
