Duck Family Safely Reunited After Bradenton Police Rescue Seven Ducklings from Sewer
A routine day for the Bradenton Police Department took an unexpected turn when officers responded to help a family of ducks attempting to cross the road.
According to the department, the adult ducks successfully made it across the street, but their seven ducklings were not as fortunate. The young birds fell into a storm sewer, prompting officers to step in and attempt a rescue.
What initially appeared to be a simple task quickly became more challenging as the ducklings proved unwilling to cooperate. After several unsuccessful attempts to guide them, officers improvised by playing duck calls from YouTube in an effort to lure the ducklings to safety.
The creative approach worked. With the help of strategic traffic control and patient coordination, officers safely rescued all seven ducklings and reunited them with their parents.
To ensure the family reached a safer location, officers provided a police escort across several additional intersections, including busy 9th Street. The rescue was assisted by the Animal Care Team from The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature.
The unusual rescue highlights the wide variety of calls law enforcement officers respond to each day and the collaborative efforts of local agencies to protect both residents and wildlife.
