The Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County is offering free community developmental screenings this fall for families with children between 1 month and 5 years old.
The screenings are designed especially to support families whose children are not enrolled in a daycare or preschool program. Families who have concerns about their child’s development — or who simply want to check whether their child is meeting age-appropriate milestones — may participate.
Developmental screenings provide a quick snapshot of a child’s progress and can help identify areas where additional evaluation or support may be beneficial.
Screenings will include the ASQ-3 developmental assessment as well as vision and hearing screenings. Developmental areas reviewed include communication, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, personal-social development and problem-solving skills.
If a screening identifies a potential concern, staff will work with the family to begin a referral to the appropriate program and provide information about community resources that may help meet the needs of the child and family.
Screening appointments will be offered Oct. 14, Nov. 18 and Dec. 9 at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Appointments are required.
