Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County Helps More Children Receive Free Swim Lessons Through AQUAlibrium Program
The Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County is helping more local children gain lifesaving water safety skills by contributing funding toward Big Dreams Through Small Steps’ AQUAlibrium Drowning Prevention Program, allowing additional families to be removed from the program’s extensive waitlist and receive free swim lesson scholarships.
The contribution supports the coalition’s mission of ensuring children have access to quality early learning opportunities that prepare them for success in school and life. Through partnerships with families, educators, and community organizations, the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County promotes school readiness while supporting the health, safety, and overall development of young children.
The funding comes at a critical time for the AQUAlibrium program, which experienced overwhelming demand this year. Over 500 families applied for free swim lesson scholarships, far exceeding the program’s initial capacity and creating a substantial waitlist.
While the Early Learning Coalition’s contribution represents one portion of the funding needed to meet the community’s demand, it is making an immediate impact by helping move additional children off the waitlist and into swim lessons.
Big Dreams Through Small Steps created the AQUAlibrium Drowning Prevention Program to remove financial barriers that prevent children from learning to swim. The program partners with local swim providers to offer free, professionally instructed swim lessons and water safety education to children throughout Manatee County.
As community organizations, businesses, and donors continue to invest in the program, more families are receiving scholarship opportunities that would not otherwise be possible. Each contribution helps reduce the waitlist and gives another child the chance to develop essential swimming and water safety skills.
With drowning remaining the leading cause of accidental death for young children in Florida, community partnerships like this play an important role in expanding access to swim lessons and helping protect more children throughout Manatee County.
