East End of Orlando Avenue to Close for Cedar Cove Construction Project
The east end of Orlando Avenue at Fifth Street West in Bradenton will close for approximately one month as crews complete infrastructure improvements tied to a new affordable housing development.
According to Manatee County Government, the closure will begin Thursday, Feb. 26, and continue through March 26. The temporary shutdown is necessary to allow workers to perform water main installations, drainage upgrades and roadway repairs connected to the Cedar Cove project.
Cedar Cove is a $28 million affordable housing development planned for Bradenton. The project will feature three three-story residential buildings and provide a total of 80 units designated for families emerging from homelessness. The apartment complex is expected to open by spring 2027.
In addition to the full closure at the east end of Orlando Avenue, Fifth Street West will experience intermittent lane closures with alternating traffic patterns during the construction period.
County officials are encouraging drivers to use alternate routes, including Fifth Street West, 53rd Avenue West (State Road 70), 44th Avenue West and 14th Street West, to help minimize congestion and delays.
The infrastructure improvements are part of ongoing efforts to support new housing opportunities while maintaining and upgrading surrounding roadways and utilities.
