Ellenton Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2022 Drive-By Shooting
A 21-year-old Ellenton man has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in a 2022 drive-by shooting that left the victim partially paralyzed. The State Attorney’s Office announced that Carlos Henry-Antonio Herrera and his co-defendant, 25-year-old Akeleis Dumbar of Sarasota, were sentenced after being convicted of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.
The shooting targeted Jamari Williams, who sustained severe injuries that led to life-altering consequences. Prosecutors stated that the attack was premeditated, with Herrera and Dumbar ambushing Williams in a calculated act of violence.
Following a thorough investigation, both men were found guilty and faced sentencing on Friday. Herrera received a life sentence, while Dumbar’s punishment was determined based on the severity of his involvement.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that the sentencing reflects the county’s commitment to holding violent offenders accountable. Authorities continue to urge the community to report any criminal activity that could help prevent future incidents of gun violence.
With the sentencing finalized, prosecutors hope the ruling serves as a deterrent against similar crimes and reinforces efforts to enhance public safety in Manatee and Sarasota counties.
